The Murrumbidgee River

The Murrumbidgee River is the heart of the Riverina
The Murrumbidgee plays the vital role of providing water for irrigation farming in the region. Fed by the mouth of the river, farming in the Riverina has flourished, producing citrus and stone fruits, vegetables, wines, rice, canola, wheat, sheep, cattle, pistachio nuts, olives and much more. 

The Murrumbidgee River is also a great place for recreation and it has numerous river reserves ideal for water sports, fishing, canoeing, swimming, camping, picnics and riverside walks.

Wagga Wagga
Come and experience the beautiful Murrumbidgee River. The perfect spot to take a dip is at Wagga Wagga Beach.

Lake Centenary, Temora
Lake Centenary is 4 km north of town beside the West Wyalong Rd. It is a popular 22-ha waterway with three small islands and a landscaped recreation and viewing area. It is an ideal spot for power boating, sailing, canoeing, fishing, swimming and picnics. It is joined to the town by a 4-km walking and cycling track.

Lake Wyangan, Griffith
Lake Wyangan is a leisurely 10 minute drive northwest of Griffith. The lake was formed in 1957 using the remains of a gypsum mine and natural swamp are. All manner of water sports are available. Bring a boat and fish, ski or simply enjoy sailing. Around the Lake there are also picnic and BBQ areas which offer a delightful setting for a relaxing break. Three major shelters exist, which have seating for 50 - 120 people and are ideal for social gatherings. Wildlife enclosures featuring native animals and bird life are found throughout the picnic area. There is also a children’s playground which will provide hour of entertainment. The picnic area is open for 7am - 8 pm daily.

Lake Talbot, Narrandera
Lake Talbot provides a swimming complex, with water slides, three pools and picnic area all set into Lake Talbot.

It’s a great day of entertainment for the whole family, spend time by the pools or take the boat out for a cruise or enjoy some water sports. Lake Talbot is a popular local area for water skiers.

Carrathool Bridge Reserve and Pinkers Beach
The historic Carrathool Bridge, located over the Murrumbidgee River, is one of the last lifting bridges remaining in Australia. Built to replace the punt, the heritage-listed bascule lift span bridge was completed in 1922 and the lift span last opened for river traffic in the 1960’s. Visitors can enjoy a picnic by the River at the Bridge Reserve, or take a walk over the Bridge.

Pinkers Beach at Carrathool is a quiet reserve and popular spot for camping, fishing and picnicking.
